Using Veteran’s Day as a peg for a message she is very passionate about, North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall visited Charlotte to spread the word about scammers preying on our military members.

Marshall says both past and present military members have been scammed out of thousands of dollars and need to protect themselves.

“This past year we did 17 cases and those 17 individuals scammed $109 million dollars out of folks,” said Marshall. “That’s the known amount. Sometimes people don’t come forward.”

Marshall held the “Fraud Awareness and Prevention for the Military” seminar, sponsored by the Better Business Bureau of the Southern Piedmont, for veterans, active duty military, reservists and military families.
